Meta has introduced a new standalone AI app powered by its latest language model, Llama 4. The app offers a more personal, voice-focused assistant experience and is now available in select countries. This marks Meta’s first big step toward building an AI that works closely with its platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
Voice Conversations Take the Spotlight
The app’s main feature is its voice-first interface, allowing users to talk to the AI instead of typing. Using full-duplex speech technology, the assistant can respond in real-time, without needing users to finish speaking first. This feature is currently in demo mode and available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Unlike other assistants that read scripted replies, Meta AI generates responses in real-time, creating a more natural conversation. Since this is an early version, users may still notice occasional glitches or delays.
Smarter and More Personalized
Built on the Llama 4 model, the app delivers more accurate, helpful, and context-aware replies. It can remember user preferences (with permission) and use data from Meta platforms — like Facebook likes or Instagram follows — to tailor responses based on individual interests.
For instance, if someone enjoys travel or learning new languages, Meta AI can offer personalized suggestions and content. Users in the US and Canada are the first to access this feature.
Deep Integration with Meta Products
The AI app is fully integrated with Meta’s ecosystem, making it easy to access the assistant across various platforms like Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, and even Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Users can start a chat on their smart glasses and continue it on the app or web.
Settings and devices linked to the current Meta View app will carry over to the new app automatically, appearing under a new “Devices” tab.
Discover Feed and AI Community Sharing
The app also includes a Discover feed where users can explore trending prompts, share their AI-generated content, or remix others’ ideas. Content is only shared publicly if users choose to post it, encouraging creativity and community engagement.
Upgraded Web Features
Meta has also improved its web version of the assistant. It now supports voice chats, offers a better image generation tool with customization options (style, lighting, mood), and in some areas, users can test a document editor to create or edit files with the help of AI.
Focus on Privacy and Control
Meta emphasizes user control and privacy. There’s a clear icon to show when the microphone is on, and users can enable a hands-free “Ready to talk” mode. Users also have full control over what the AI remembers and which data it uses.
